The Lofts at Cargill Falls Mill  •  Putnam, CT

Located in downtown Putnam, this historic mill was transformed into a mixed-use Multi-story mixed use development which included 82 rental apartments and retail space.  This project is unique in that it is the renovation of multiple mill buildings dating from 1824 to 1950.  The project consisted of the rehab of these buildings to create the residential units as well as portions of the residential buildings for over 30,000 sf of commercial and office space and common use space totaling over 137,000 sf. The mill was listed in 2013 in the National Register of Historic Places, coming under the purview of both the State Historic Preservation Office and the National Preservation Society requiring that portions of the project maintain or duplicate the historic elements.  The existing foot bridge over the waterway was at the north end of the project.  In order to make the parking lot easily accessible to all buildings, as well as allow for handicap access, a large structural steel and concrete walkway was created over the waterway at the central point of the project.  This beautiful historic apartment building is located within easy walking distance to the Main Street restaurants and shopping areas.
